Decreasing Self-sufficiency for Beef and Pork in Korea

On May 28, 2016, the Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs (MAFRA) announced that Korea's self-sufficiency for beef and pork decreased together for the second consecutive year in 2015. Korea's self-sufficiency rate for beef came at 46%in 2015, down from 50.1%posted in 2013. The self-sufficiency rate for pork was 72.3 % last year, down from 84 %posted in 2013. It is mainly because the rising demand and imports led to the decline of the self-sufficiency in beef and pork in Korea.
