DOST 10 opens undergrad scholarship applications up to August 31

Department of Science and Technology (DOST) region 10 invites graduating senior high school students to become a DOST scholar and apply for its scholarship program with deadline up to August 31, 2018.

In Talakayan sa PIA, media forum on August 14, 2018 at Limketkai Luxe Hotel, DOST regional director Alfonso P. Alamban shared they have organized review classes for qualified students for 11 Saturdays to cover all the major topics during the examination.

Most passers come from urban city like Cagayan de Oro but we have a target of one scholar per municipality, he said.

“We see the challenge of the educational system of the rural area, the lack of science teachers, when they take the exams, they really have a problem,” Alamban explained.

There are total 1,211 scholars in the region.

These are: Mindanao State University – Iligan Institute of Technology (MSU-IIT) with 708 DOST scholars, University of Science and Technology of Southern Philippines (USTSP) 214 scholars, and Central Mindanao University (CMU) in Bukidnon with 158 while the rest is distributed to private schools in Cagayan de Oro City.

Alamban said many of their graduates are in the field of research.

This is part of their goal to increase research and development workers to 380 to match our population.
